TO THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS:  

 

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that a Primary Election will be held in all City/Township precincts on Tuesday, August 2, 2016.  The last day to register to vote at the Primary Election will be Tuesday, July 5, 2016.  Persons residing in said Cities/Townships registering after 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 will not be eligible to vote at the election.  Persons planning to register must determine when the office of the City/Township Clerk or the office of the County Clerk or the Secretary of State Branch office or other state designated office will be open for registration.  Registration by mail may be used by obtaining and completing a Mail Voter Registration Application and forwarding to the election official as directed on the application by the close of registration deadline.  A person who registers to vote by mail is required to vote in person unless they have satisfied identification requirements with the local clerk or are at least 60 years of age or are handicapped.  Only persons who have registered as electors with the City/Township Clerk or with the County Clerk or through registration at a Secretary of State branch office or other state designated office or by using an official mail registration application, are registered electors of said City/Township.

 

Persons with special needs as defined by the American’s with Disabilities Act should contact the appropriate Clerk’s office.

 

PERSONS ENTITLED to be registered voters in said City/Township must possess the following qualifications on or before the day of the election:  (1) a citizen of the United States; (2) not less than 18 years of age; (3) a resident of the State of Michigan and the local municipality for not less than 30 days prior to the Election (MCL 168.492).  In addition, qualified electors must be registered to vote not less than 30 days prior to the election (MCL 168.497).

   ALLEGAN DISTRICT LIBRARY MILLAGE PROPOSAL  Shall the Allegan District Library, County of Allegan, Michigan, be authorized to levy a new additional millage in an amount not to exceed .95 mill ($.95 on each $1,000 of taxable value) against all taxable property within the Allegan District Library district for a period of thirty (30) years, 2016 to 2045, inclusive, for the purpose of providing funds for all district library purposes authorized by law, including an addition to and renovations of the library building?  The estimate of the revenue the Allegan District Library will collect if the millage is approved and levied by the Allegan District Library in the 2016 calendar year is approximately $474,000.  By law, the City of Allegan Downtown Development Authority will receive a portion of the millage collected only from the City of Allegan Downtown Development Authority District.

   HERRICK DISTRICT LIBRARY MILLAGE PROPOSAL Shall the Herrick District Library, Counties of Allegan and Ottawa, Michigan, be authorized to levy a new additional millage in an amount not to exceed 1.5 mills ($1.50 on each $1,000 of taxable value) against all taxable property within the Herrick District Library district for a period of fourteen (14) years, 2017 to 2030, inclusive, for the purpose of providing funds for all district library purposes authorized by law?  The estimate of the revenue the District Library will collect if the millage is approved and levied by the District Library in the 2017 calendar year is approximately $5,270,000.  To the extent required by law, a portion of the revenue collected will be distributed to the City of Holland Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, the Holland Charter Township Brownfield Redevelopment Authority and the Holland SmartZone Local Development Finance Authority.
